I had the pleasure to photograph a wedding on the 2nd October 2023. The venue is beautiful, service is great. The garden is perfect for that beautiful family portraits. And the best thing the Kilkenny castle just a short walk.
We loved Butler Court! Yvonne was lovely and welcoming, the room was large and pristine clean with all the amenities, the shower was spacious, and the in-room cold breakfast was delicious and fresh every day. Would love to stay here again.
My wife and I just spent a couple of days there and had a lovely time. No complaints at all. Great location and the accommodation and service were first class. Thanks.
Very well located and comfortable setting
Bed and the room were great.
Breakfast was excellent 👌
Perfect overnight stay on our Ireland road trip. The most friendly reception from staff. The food was excellent. Placed right in the centre of Kilkenny with free parking. Would highly recommend.
The lunch here was very good and reasonably priced. The dining area was nice and overlooked the garden area where you can have a meal or coffee/tea. Dogs welcomed in the garden.
• On May 1, 2023, reservation for one night was made.
• On May 2, 2023, reservations for this one night was cancelled (14:02 time)
• Unfortunately, I did not print out either confirmation. I contacted by ISP and was told emails are not kept longer than 3 months (sent files or archive folders).
• On October 5, I was sent an email from Bulter House (Niamh Lanigan) asking when arrival. I emailed and called stating this reservation was cancelled over 3 months ago. I was told due to a no-show policy; I would be charged. I paid charge $205.
• Over the course of my trip, I stayed in 6 different hotels. EVERY hotel sent me an arrival confirmation email at least 48 hours prior to actual stay, a much-needed curtesy for a professional hotel. Butler House does not do this. So, since I canceled reservation and they believe I did not, there was no courtesy email and regardless, I was going to be paying this fee.
• Niamh stated the hotel would call me in the morning to discuss. No phone call ever, just another nasty email stating the charge would be processed. Fine but the misinformation regarding communication falls in line with the current email situation or lack thereof.
• The harassment I received from both Niamh Lanigan and other manager: Lorraine Kerwick was unacceptable and board line bullying. After the last email from Lorraine, I had to request “we are done here’ to have the email exchange stop. Never did they honor their conversation of communicating via phone the next day, as was stated by Niamh on our phone call.
• My suggestion:
- This hotel is run by a trust, therefore think government agency, find another hotel.
- Maintain email confirmation is hard copy form
- Read the reviews (not the 5’s but deeper into reviews). I believe I saved myself from a horrible visit base on the most recent non-5 reviews.
- Find another hotel that will not attempt to ruin your vacation/trip with nasty, bullying emails.
Any rebuttal by hotel management is and will be false/inaccurate. Keep hard copies of everything including and phone conversations.
Best situation is to skip this unprofessional hotel and find something that will add value to your trip both in quality and enjoyment.
We had a great stay at Butler House, only got to stay one night but it was still very comfortable and relaxing. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, and we were fortunate to get a view of the gorgeous garden. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were all very professional and courteous.
